SPEEDING motorists continue to be a problem in a residential street, a Knoxfield man claims.
Kathryn Road resident Ian Simpson said there had been a number of close calls in recent weeks, with some vehicles going so fast it was difficult to read their numberplates.
In a letter to Knox Council, Mr Simpson highlighted a number of recent incidents, including:
* An incident involving a motorcycle and a speeding car in which the motorcyclist missed "serious injury by only a few centimetres".
* A car going through a front fence and garden because it failed to navigate a bend.
* A car hitting a sign at the Anne and Kathryn roads roundabout.
* A car crashing through a fence at the corner of Anne and Kathryn roads.
Mr Simpson said the problem was caused not only by "hoons" but by "ordinary motorists" looking for a short cut to Ferntree Gully Road.
He said painting a large 50kmh sign at strategic places in the road would go some way to reminding motorists of the speed limit.
However, Knox Council engineering and infrastructure director Ian Bell said while traffic devices slowed responsible drivers, they did not make irresponsible ones behave better.
