Police talk to Knox man over Upwey fires

A FERNTREE Gully man, 52, is assisting police with an investigations into several suspicious fires in Upwey yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services received several calls after three small grass fires were found burning between the Burwood Highway and the railway line, approximately 250 metres west of Morris Road, shortly before 3.30pm.

CFA crews were able to quickly contain the fires, which have been deemed suspicious.

Railway services were disrupted for about 40 minutes and one city-bound lane of the Burwood Highway was closed.

Police will continue its regular fire patrols and encouraged people to report all suspicious activity.
