Kaleb's starring role on grand final day

15/10/2008 11:04:00 AM
NOT many people can lay claim to being on the dais on the last day in September, but Rowville resident Kaleb Collins did just that.

The youngster presented a premiership medal to Stuart Dew, one of the key players behind Hawthorn's grand final success.

An Auskick participant, Collins received a Hawks cap from the former Port Adelaide star in exchange.

Collins was one of 22 lucky children picked to present medals from an initial list of 160,000.

"I was picked randomly. I didn't have to do anything," he said.

"All I did was play Auskick."

The St Simons Primary School pupil, 8, participates regularly at Auskick sessions at Stud Park Reserve.

Being a Hawthorn supporter just made the the day even better for Collins.

Not surprisingly, Buddy Franklin is his favourite player.

You could probably forgive Collins for being a little nervous presenting the medal to Dew, who kicked two crucial goals to lead Hawthorn to its upset win over Geelong.

However, he kept a cool head as he stepped up on stage.

"I wasn't really nervous after seeing all the other kids doing it. I was confident," Collins said.
