THE Kilsyth Cobras' rivalry with the Knox Raiders is set to ignite this weekend as the clubs battle for the 'Ashes' in round 16 of the SEABL Championship.
Knox will enter the contest with the upper hand - its men and women's sides were both victorious in round 3 and it is above the Cobras on the ladder; but, as holders of the trophy, Kilsyth will be keen to ensure its piece of history remains at the Snakepit.
The Ashes trophy was first awarded in 2006 to recognise the intense rivalry between the two clubs and as a symbol of the remains of the Kilsyth Club, which burnt down.
Knox won the first two trophies but Kilsyth got the upper hand last year, winning both the men's and women's games.
The third-placed Cobras will need Joe Werner, Tim Lang, Gerard Leonard and Quincy Henderson to fire at the offensive end while containing the second-placed Raiders, who are loaded with stars CJ Massingale, Michael Hill, Lester Strong and Cam Rigby.
For the women, Amy Denson, the league MVP favourite, is having a stellar year and will be keen for a big game after the Lady Cobras' poor performance against the Raiders earlier this season.
Knox will have Caitlin Cunningham, Emily Fryters and Ashley Dunlap looking to stop the in-form Lady Cobras.
Tip-off is at 6.15pm (women) and 8.15pm (men) at the Kilsyth Sports Centre in Liverpool Road.
