SIXTEEN-year-old Johnson Park all-rounder Steven Devenish earned his colours at the weekend when he struck his maiden century in the Knox Tavern Cup, helping his team to 8-384 against Rowville.
Devenish, or 'Devo' to his teammates, played a chanceless innings and was batting with his older brother David when he brought up his ton.
Ironically, it was his brother who assisted his demise when he was run out for 120 in an afternoon's work he described simply as "awesome".
Bryn Gaunt and Steve Bowen contributed with 50s while last week's star with the ball, James Rogers, toiled hard for 3-64 from 18 overs.
Ferntree Gully batted its full quota of 80 overs against Belgrave to register 8-236. Skipper Shane Richardson was unbeaten on 64, while Jayden Bradbury made 38 and Ryan Handley 35. Belgrave's Scott Vozzo took 4-59 from 20 overs.
Knox Gardens might have been disappointing with 128 against Monbulk on a slow Monbulk outfield, but it had the Hawks 2-10 at stumps with successful opening pair Jason Simmonds and David Wright back in the log cabin. Wayne McInerney top-scored for the Falcons once more with 38. Blake Walter took 4-27.
The Basin, after almost upsetting Upwey last game, was bundled out for 148 at Upper Gully with the Kings' front-line bowler Aaron Watson bagging 3-21 after performing well at Bendigo Country Week.
St John's Tecoma fared poorly with 129 against Eildon Park, with only Jason Newman (56) getting a score.
Dual Feaver medallist Shane Cosstick was back in the limelight with 3-23 and his team was 1-23 at the close of play. The Panthers look good on paper but they must win to release some relegation pressure.
Decoite Shield saw some big totals posted, with Knoxfield's wicketkeeper and former Country Week representative Luke Flynn regaining some form by opening the innings and batting all day for 151 not out against Mountain Gate.
The Knights have 313 on the board, which should be too many for the Gators.
Footballers were dismissed for 255 at Pickett Reserve against South Belgrave with 'The Bush Bradman' Robbie Bedford getting in on the action with 63.
Anthony White for South Belgrave took 3-39 in a game which looks evenly poised.
Knox slammed 404 at Berwick Road, which is far too many for Auravale.
