New coach at the helm

04 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM

KNOX City Soccer Club has appointed ex-Premier League player and coach Gary Groenewald as head coach for season 2010.

Groenewald's previous coaching appointment was at State League One club FC Bulleen, where he continued his reputation as a developer of quality young players.

During his time at Bulleen, he found and developed Matthew Leckie, who at only 18 years is now starring in the A-League with Adelaide United.

Groenewald will be assisted in 2010 by Peter Veljovic, who coached Knox City's Reserves to their league title in 2009 and by former Knox player, Darryl Roberts, who will take the reserves this year.

Pre-season will start under Groenewald on December 10 with four sessions before Christmas and then a short break over New Year before resuming in January.

* Melbourne Victory midfielder and former Knox City Soccer Club player Leigh Broxham returned to his old club last month to celebrate his nomination as the A-League's NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award.

Broxham presented Knox City with $1500 in football equipment and an additional $1500
