15/10/2008 11:07:00 AM
THE Upwey Ferntree Gully Tigers chalked up their first win of the women's division three season on Saturday, overcoming Bundoora 11-10 in a closely fought battle.

Upwey scored four runs early, matching Bundoora, with scores level until the third inning. The Tigers' bats fell silent for the next few innings.

Bundoora took a four-run lead into the final inning.

In their last chance to score, the Tigers fought back to hit five runs and win the game.

Narelle Quinn pitched well the whole game, backed up by a solid Upwey defence. Highlights included the strong debut performance of Tigers second baseman Jessica Wearne.

The Upwey Ferntree Gully Baseball Club fields teams in tee-ball, junior, senior men and senior women competitions.
